PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2 GENRES UPDATE
The New Genesis update will bring an overhaul of graphics and game systems in a setting that takes place 1,000 years after the events of the original PSO2. In addition to a revamped battle system, the update will add various systems, including day and night cycles. A Japan-exclusive Starter Package edition will also go on sale this August for PlayStation 4, PC, and Switch. Story quests in PSO2 initially required players to be on a mission or exploring certain areas to encounter cut scenes, but it was removed and replaced with the movies at the quest counter. The massive update for Phantasy Star Online 2 called PSO2: New Genesis is getting a simultaneous worldwide launch this June, Sega announced. Rather than going area to area, players will be able to explore, and hopefully, Sega will bring back the interactivity with the story, which was removed. All of these world changes mean questing and missions will be a world of difference. Gliding will also be introduced to the game making the world more vertical. This will make for some interesting elements with how the story may affect areas. PSO2 already had weather, but now it will be more dynamic and change environments along with the passage of time. New Genesis will have more character customization but, more importantly, a more open world. We all know the engine looks incredible from the video, but it also promises a much-needed overhaul to the current game. but if these aren't carrying over, we may be able to look forward to some interesting new builds. There hasn't been much else said on skills, leveling, etc. It will still be an action game front and center, though New Genesis will be a more mobile one on par with modern action RPGs. While the new enemies were revealed as DOLLS in the New Genesis trailer, we may not have heard the last of the Falspawn in 2021.Ĭombat is one system that won't be changing too much.
Sega announced this will be a new story that ties into PSO2's original storyline. For those who don't know, Oracle is the name of the ARKS fleet. Episode Six appears to be the culmination of events as New Genesis is set to take place 1000 years after Oracle's battle. As the story progresses, more information is gleaned about Xion, Photons (the main source of magic in the game) and the Falspawn. We won't spoil the plot, but a lot is sacrificed along the way, and there are times where things look dire for ARKS. PSO2's plot (mainly) centers around ARKS fighting against Falspawn and their corruption throughout the universe. This says a lot about what may come at the end of Episode Six, but it also makes New Genesis next in the storyline. New Genesis is planned to launch at the end of Episode Six, by which point the North American version should be synced up with the Japanese version's progress. It's not meant to replace what's already been established, but instead is a new chapter in the saga. First, yes, it is a separate game however, it's also still PSO2.
